Metal Braces
These are the classic braces that most people picture when they hear the word "braces." However, modern brackets (braces) are smaller and less noticeable than the "train tracks" braces of the past. We also use the newest heat-activated wires that use your body temperature to help your teeth move gently and efficiently. The wires are attached to the braces with tiny elastics that can come in all the colours of the rainbow!

Clear Braces
Ceramic braces are similar in size and shape to metal braces, except that they are made of tooth-colored ceramic to help them that blend with the colour of your teeth.

INVISALIGN®
Invisalign clear aligners are virtually invisible plastic shells that fit closely over your teeth. Your aligners are custom-engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time. A custom treatment plan is mapped out by Dr. Borsuk. A series of aligners is then created to lead your teeth towards their ideal goal. As you change from one set of aligners to another (every week or two), your teeth gradually move into position, according to your custom plan.

Appliances
Palatal Expander
A palate expander is commonly used to help correct a narrow upper jaw in a growing child. It is used to correct "crossbites", and create space for the proper eruption of permanent teeth. It uses normal growth processes to widen an upper jaw to equal the width of the lower jaw. An expander is widened with a key a specified amount (at home), and is a comfortable, pain-free process. Once the desired palate width is obtained, the expander is left in until the new bone has matured.

Herbst Appliance
One of the most common problems orthodontists treat is the discrepancy that occurs when the upper teeth protrude over the lower, commonly referred to as an "overbite". Frequently, this is due to a lower jaw that is set further back than the upper jaw is. With these growing patients, we want to encourage the lower jaw's growth to "catch up" to the upper jaw and allow the jaws to fit more ideally. The Herbst appliance helps encourage the lower jaw to develop in a forward direction. Patients using the appliance see improvements in jaw position, profile, as well as tooth alignment.

Carriere® Motion Appliance
The Carriere® Motion™ Class II orthodontic correction appliance is used before braces as an efficient way to correct the way back teeth fit together or to create space to align the front teeth. There are many advantages of the Carriere® Motion system: patients enjoy a faster treatment time once braces are put on; they can speak clearly with the appliance in; they can maintain good oral hygiene, due to the appliances' sleek, non-invasive style. Average treatment time with the Motion appliance is three to six months, at which time Dr. Borsuk will remove the appliance and place your braces or aligners.
Forsus™ Appliance
The Forsus appliance is used in some cases to correct a poor bite by encouraging the upper teeth backwards while moving the lower teeth forward. It is used while a patient is in braces. The appliance is a little spring that attaches comfortably from the top back teeth to the lower side teeth.
